North Beach Kind of Mood is based on a trip to San Francisco’s North Beach area, which left a lasting impression culminated by a visit to City Lights Bookstore, and the mandatory purchase of On the Road, by Jack Kerouac.
North Beach Kind of Mood was written and recorded as a tribute to a time long gone, intended to capture what it must have been like to stroll North Beach, catch some good jazz, and just be whoever you wanted to be.
Minimal production was used, with bass, piano, drums, vibes, and cornet backing a free form vocal track. The original idea was recorded twenty years ago and put on the shelf until 2020 when I felt it needed to be updated, lyrics added, and shared with the world.
